The Eastern Maine Camera Club will meet 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb 2nd, at the Bangor Parks and Recreation Building, 647 Main St. Guest speaker will be Noel Topping, speaking on Wedding Photography.

Peter has put together a show that will have something for everyone. How often have you seen photos from deep inside the earth?! In his own words...

"It is a mix of some of my better images over the years, some history of work that I have done at Carlsbad Caverns NP, some of the more complicated images I’ve made and details of how the images were created. There’s also a very brief introduction as to how I got into caving, cave photography and being a potter (my full time career for 43 years). At the end of the presentation, I chose one image that I took a couple of years ago to illustrate all the post capture processing I did on it to become the final image. I will also bring along a lot of gear I use to take my images. The final thing I will do during the presentation is to take questions from people."  "...I don’t want to overwhelm with technical detail, but I also do want to show that some of what I do requires advanced knowledge and techniques to make it appear easy and seamless. In short, it should provide something for everyone. Certainly what I do is likely to be very different from what most photographers do, so it should be a nice sidetrack for people to learn about."

The Eastern Maine Camera Club will meet 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Bangor Parks and Recreation Building, 647 Main St. Guest speaker will be Colleen Miniuk-Sperry of Chandler, Arizona, speaking on ” The Art of Seeing Differently.” Chandler has been the Artist in Residence with Acadia National Park three times, which enabled her to publish “Photographing Acadia National Park: The Essential Guide to When, Where and How” in February 2014.  Jim Nickelson will be speaking Thursday April 7, 2016 at Bangor Parks and Rec.  Science is the underpinning for all of Jim's photography.  Before he got into photography, he was a NASA engineer and a corporate lawyer.  He now teaches at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine.  More information and examples of his work can be found at jimnickelson.com.

Eastern Maine Camera Club organizes speakers the first Thursday of the month from October to May.  The schedule is typically posted on http://easternmainecameraclub.org/events.aspx in September.  We update the information throughout the season as speakers are confirmed.  Please check often to get the latest information.

This coming Thursday March 3 is a speakers night.  Robin Robinson will share her work. Robin is from Maine, and specializes in Maine Nature photography.  As a writer, birder, and gardener, Robin's mind is always on the natural world.  Her work has been featured in "Downeast Magazine," the "Portland Press Herald," the "Bangor Daily News," and others.  Her photographs have been selected for the juried Maine Photography Show.  She is also a speaker and educator state-wide, and her work has been displayed in numerous galleries.   Her web site is: http://www.robinrobinsonmaine.com/.

It’s time to prepare your photos for the 2015 Photo Contest at the Bangor State Fair! The official rules can be downloaded from the fair’s web site at the following address:

If you would like to have a hard copy of the rules for this or any other fair contest mailed to you, this can be requested by calling 207.561.8300 or emailing fair@bangormaine.gov with a name, address and list of competitions you are interested in.   More information regarding contests can be found on the fair’s web site at the following address:

Eastern Maine Camera Club members will be at Fair Grandstand on Monday, July 27^th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM to accept entries.  You can also mail your entries, details for that can be found in the Contest Rules. 

Every year we regretfully end up turning some entries away so please do take the time to read the rules.  The most common reason for photos being turned away is improper matting or size.  It’s really important for your photos to be matted according to the rules. Proper matting will help protect your images from damage, and facilitate the way we hang the photos. 

Photo tickets are very important and often misunderstood. We often have over 600 photos to process in one evening. This identifying system allows us to judge the photos anonymously, then quickly pull down the ticket for display, so the photographer can be recognized, without marking up your image or matt. 

Unfortunately tickets can sometimes fall off, making it impossible for us to know who the photo belongs too.  For that reason, your name and address must be on the back of the photo prior to entry in addition to the tickets mentioned above.  Missing this step causes a significant delay for everyone.

I’ve given you some key points but this is no substitute for reading the entire rules.  Please read the entire rules to help us make this an enjoyable experience for everyone.  I’ll post the link again so you don’t even have to scroll back up.

Michael has over 25 years experience studying the birds of North America and brings a wealth of knowledge about Neotropical migrants and the avifauna of the Eastern United States. Michael has traveled extensively in the US, Alaska, Europe, Australia, South America and Cuba.  Michael is a regional business leader promoting sound ecologically practices in business and land development.

Michael maintains his own bird sanctuary on  MDI, and offers tours through his Downeast Nature Tours business.

The meeting will be held in the Senior room at Bangor Parks and Rec, 647 Main Street, Bangor Maine.  Start time; 6:30 PM. 

The Eastern Maine Camera Club is setting up a Macro Photography Weekend with Mark Warner.  Mark is an accomplished professional photographer.  Though his expertise is with aerial and landscape photography, Mark is very skilled in the 'up close and personal world" of macro photography.  Mark is very articulate, and an excellent presenter.  He is also very skilled at image commentary and critique, which will be a part of the weekend experience.  Your participation in the commentary is voluntary.

There will be a fee for Mark's services.  That fee will be spread out among the participants.

We will be staying at Quoddy Head Station. There will be lodging cost for those who plan to spend one or more nights. You can come down for the day.

The proposed dates are either September 5 and 6 or September 12 and 13.

Our opening meeting has been scheduled and a letter has been mailed to all current and prospective members with details. There has been a change in VENUE since the mailing went out.  We have attempted to email everyone that received a letter to let them know of the venue change.  If you need more information about the current venue please contact us using this form on our web site.

Below are some excerpts from the letter:

August 2013 has arrived in a flurry of activity, with burgoning gardens, vacations, and long summer days.  Take a little time over this last month of summer to check out the EMCC website for the schedule of competition topics and get out shooting!

Once again, this year we have some new categories and an exciting year planned.  We will host the NECCC Interclub Digital image competetion.  We have added a black and white digital image category for our monthly competetinos along with the traditional digital and print categories. Speaker nights will be informative with a great slate of talented presenters to teach and inspire us.  Upcoming field trips promise to be fun and educational; all are encouraged to participate.

The Bangor Sate Fair competetion is once again complete.  . . .  Congratulations to all the EMCC members on your beautiful entries and to those who placed "in the ribbons".  Your efforts reflect well on our club.  Thank you everyone for all your efforts in pulling this event together in a new and challenging venue.  

It is time once again to send in your membership dues for the upcoming year.  . . .  Remember, you must be a paid member to participate in Club and NECCC competetions, and to have access to the member's section of our excellent web site. 

Our first cllub meeting of the year will be on Thursday, Sept 5th at 6:00 p.m. . . . Burgers and Hot Dog's will be provided.
