Definitions of competition topics:

Open:  Any subject matter in good taste is acceptable.  (Back to Top)

Nature: Images submitted in the nature category should not show any evidence of "the hand of man."  This includes, but is not limited to, such things as cut grass, cultivated flowers, bird feeders, roads, buildings, or jet contrails in the sky.  Exceptions are banded birds and animals whose natural habitat are man-made structures; e.g. barn swallows.  (Back to Top)

Water:  Images where water in it's liquid form is the obvious and predominant subject.  For example, if you were to enter a photograph from the Kenduskeag Stream canoe race, the image should make you think "White water with a canoe on it," rather than "A boat on a stream." (Back to Top)

Fog:   Images that evoke the depth and mystery of fog, or its ability to convert an otherwise mundane scene into something magical. (Back to Top)

Cemeteries:  Images that convey the sense of memory, history, or respect for those that have gone before that we all feel when visiting a cemetery.  These scenes may also be presented as attractive landscapes, since that is often what their designers intend for the benefit of all who visit.  (Back to Top)

Winter:  Images that say anything you want to about winter.  You may want to convey how cold it is, fun with winter sports, the beauty of a twilit winter landscape, or whatever special meaning winter has for you. (Back to Top)
