(This page presents some noteworthy items that members may want to know about before the next Viewfinder blog is published.)
Here are the assigned competition topics for the 2010-2011 club year. The specific months for each topic will be given when the calendar is updated for next year. As always, September and April will be "Open," and October will be "Nature:"
Church Interiors - This should be pretty straight forward. Images of church interiors or other identifiable places of worship. This should inspire you to photograph something besides just stained glass windows, though that is acceptable for this topic.
Abstract, Grunge, and HDR - Grunge is an opportunity for those who have an interest in heavy manipulation of digital images using Photoshop or other software. In effect, this is an ‘anything goes’ opportunity. Abstract is for those who like to CAPTURE unusual images or unusual views of common scenes WITHOUT doing a lot or any post processing. HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a technique for combining multiple images taken with different exposures for the purpose of extending the visual range of a photograph to more closely approximate what the human eye can see. These three image presentation approaches will be part of one competition.
Pets - This is also straight forward. Capture and present images of your (or someone else’s) pet critter.
Downtown, USA - Scenes depicting the urban areas of any town or city you care to photograph.
January 9, 2010—Sally Arata just gave me some information that may be of interest to club members. She and Mary took a guided photo river trip in the Grand Canyon last year, and the trip is apparently being offered again this year. Here is the text of Sally's message:
Mary can give anyone details while I'm gone. thanks Sally"
Mike Leonard's presentation on "After Dark" photography at last night's meeting (11/5/2009) was very informative and educational. We have added his speakers notes to our Links page under Photography Education, and you can also get them by clicking here for now. They are in a standard PDF file, so you can either print them out or save the file on your computer.
The Frank H. Howd Memorial Photography Scholarship is being renewed. Click here for more information.
Our Preserve is 100 acres of wooded terrain and we have tree stands and blinds scattered throughout the preserve. You would be placed on stand with a walkie talkie and if you chose to relocate during your stay I will assist you to another stand or blind. We can place bait around the site to enhance the potential of these wary animals to breaking from heavy cover.
Prices for the 2009 season are as listed below.
1 Person $150.00
2 People $100.00 per person
Family Rate $50.00 per person....... 4 person min.
You may enter the preserve at 7:30 a.m. and leave at dusk if you choose. The pictures are yours to use in any fashion you choose.
